EU Commission recommends member states to monitor acrylamide levels

The EU Commission wants samples from all countries during a three year period. Totally 202 samples from each of ten product categories.
The object is to get a clear picture of the levels of acrylamide in European foodstuffs known to contain high levels and/or contribute significantly to the dietary intake of the whole population. The results will be evaluated in order to assess how effective the voluntary measures are.

  • french fries, ready to eat
  • potato crisps
  • pre-cooked french fries/potato products for home cooking
  • bread
  • breakfast cereals
  • biscuits, including infant biscuits
  • roasted coffee
  • jarred baby foods
  • processed ceral-based baby foods
  • other products (like rösti, gingerbread, coffeee substitutes)
French fries and potato crisps should be sampled twice a year.
